Summary from GoodReads

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Edie Kramer has a score to settle with the beautiful people at Blackbriar Academy. Their cruelty drove her to the brink of despair, and four months ago, she couldn't imagine being strong enough to face her senior year. But thanks to a Faustian compact with the enigmatic Kian, she has the power to make the bullies pay. She's not supposed to think about Kian once the deal is done, but devastating pain burns behind his unearthly beauty, and he's impossible to forget.

In one short summer, her entire life changes, and she sweeps through Blackbriar, prepped to take the beautiful people down from the inside. A whisper here, a look there, and suddenly... bad things are happening. It's a heady rush, seeing her tormentors get what they deserve, but things that seem too good to be true usually are, and soon, the pranks and payback turns from delicious to deadly. Edie is alone in a world teeming with secrets and fiends lurking in the shadows. In this murky morass of devil's bargains, she isn't sure who—or what--she can trust. Not even her own mind...

 REVIEW

Real, hurtfull and truly a great mix of PRN and reality.

When I first read the summary I got the impression that this book would be yet another mix of Faust and Dorian Grey. BUT as the story began I was literally on a cliff hanger.

Edie is your average ners, geek, which is yet another victim of school bullying. She has suffered so much to the point of thinking that death will be her salvation. Please note the fact of this. In a world where looks get you anywhere and some people think themselves better that others, Edie is a strong model.

Now, when Kian enters the plot, things become pretty interesting. At first I thought he really was a Demon but later, for those who will read the book, his presence and life story are really altering.

With her wishes Edie makes some choices. With revenge as her only thought, she soon realises that everything around her change and that her self is not the only one in danger.

Bordering between Urban fantasy and paranormal, combining urban myths, thrillers and romance, along with a nice, fat dose of self discovery, "Mortal Danger" is the absolute read for me on this year.

Ann Aguirre also notes on her author note the reasons for the plot of the book. Some readers don't bother reading them, but please I advise you to read this one. You can't help but notice the small, tiny detail of biography in there, which in a way reflects on Edie's situation. As someone who had also fallen victim of school bullying, I understand fully both Ann's words and Edie's desperate thoughts at the beginning of the book, but not the killing part.

With this ending I am really going for the second book, since I want more of Kian and Edie. And since Haloween is around the corner, this is a great read for the season too!

  1. Ahh, I absolutely love the cover for this book! It looks so bloody and creepy and I'm so glad that the story itself didn't disappoint, too! I hadn't been seeing too many positive reviews for it so I was beginning to wonder if it was worth reading, but now your review has got me all excited again. :)

Edie sounds like a protagonist I'll be able to connect too pretty easily, mostly because we seem to have a lot of things in common. Yeah, the world of Mortal Danger does sound really harsh, but that's what makes it so much more intriguing, in my opinion. And hm, I'll be sure to read the author's note if I ever do give this book a go.

Thanks for the review, Alexandra. :)
