The sought-after bachelor lives by a rigid schedule and a single rule—one relationship per year, lasting no more than two months. No exceptions. When he gave up the big city for a small town, he hoped to escape the worst of his memories—until a brash beauty dredges up long-buried emotions. A reformed party girl, Jessie Kay Dillon is determined to walk the straight and narrow. But her love-hate sizzle with West is just too irresistible. They can't be near each other without tearing off their clothes, but the last thing she needs is to be his next two-month dump. Will she become the one exception? Because as any former girl-gone-wild knows: rules are made to be broken.

THE BLOOD SCION Blurb:

I was just a reporter, trying to stay ahead of my student loans. I knew the rules, and I followed them. I thought I knew how the world worked—humans lived their petty little lives in the safety of the sun. We loved and fought and—when the sun sank—we scurried behind our walls and lived in fear. That is when the monsters came out to play. And even in the safety of the sun, we knew who ruled us. The Houses. And their Scions. Everyone knows the great Houses and their Scions—they are feared and loved and hated and envied. They are the gods who walk the shadows and rule all of our lives. They are salvation and death. And somehow, I am one of them.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“Farley?” I blink, and stare at my intern.
She’s a tiny little thing, and it occurs to me—not for the first time—that I have no business putting her in an office like this. We aren’t doing the smart thing—we don’t toe the House line. We’re too little for them to care, but I’m well aware that it’s not exactly safe.
 “What is it?”
“You have a lunch appointment, ma’am.” I frown. “Since when?”
“Hendin set it up.” I breathe a curse.
Kevin Hendin might be the best damn editor I’ve ever met, but he’s still a fucking pain in the ass. I swallow that thought down and save the draft I’m working on, rising and shrugging into my suit coat. “Where?”
“Silver and Ivy.” I go still.
Who the hell are we meeting that can afford S&I? It’s one of the finest restaurants in the city, completely human, and expensive as fuck. Winston took me there when I graduated from NYU. Of course, it was for a tiny glass of wine and a shared dessert—neither of us could afford more than that—but it was a sweet gesture that meant a lot, especially coming from my ridiculously practical brother.
“Ma’am?” I blink out of my thoughts to focus on my intern, and snatch up my laptop and phone. Shove both with my wallet into my messenger bag and snag my glasses and notebook before I dart out. It’s ridiculous to use a notebook, these days. Everyone has gone digital—what was a gathering wave before Brakken—became a way of life in the aftermath.
The Houses controlled everything after, and pushed tech hard. Some people believed it was out of kindness. It wasn’t. But I’ve never been blinded by the pretty veneer of the Houses or their Scions.
Silver and Ivy is one of the last places in New York that can still maintain their human only clientele. Because they cater to the wealthy, and even in the aftermath of the plague and all the change that the Houses inflicted on us, the wealthy maintains a level of untouchability.
They are protected by that comfort of security that money can buy. Even the wealthiest in our country could be bought by one of the Houses, but I think it amuses them to let the one percent cling to the illusion that they are still different from the rest of us. I step into S&I and belatedly realize that I don’t know who I’m meeting. I mutter a soft curse and the eyebrow of the host twitches in response. No, I suppose he isn’t used to young reporters with a gutter mouth spilling into his lunch hour. I grin, and run a hand through my hair. I’m about to screw up his whole day. I amble up to where he wait and he gives me a frosty stare.
“I’m meeting someone,” I say. His gaze sweeps over me and his lips curls just a little, all annoyed disdain that pisses me off.
“And you are?”
“Farley Hart.” His eyes go wide and he pales, so much so I take a step back.
Something is very wrong about all of this, and Winston always told me to listen to my gut. I take another step, and a hand clamps down on my arm, rooting me to the spot. It’s icy and burning and so damn unmovable.
I know, even before I let my gaze crawl up. Shiny boots, a pristine black suit that cost more than my degree, a startlingly white shirt with a skinny black tie. Wide shoulders, thin waist, and a hand that’s fucking huge, latched onto me. A ring glints on his finger and I focus on that, on the strange sigil worked into the metal. It’s not gold, and it sure as hell isn’t silver. It’s almost dull. Iron?
“Oh shit,” I mutter. A vampire is holding me, keeping me from bolting. And if that weren’t bad enough—it’s a damn Blood Prince.

THE SCIONLESS HOUSE Blurb:

Twelve Houses. Twelve vampire lines. We ruled from the shadows, and manipulated the world, and when humans came too close to destruction, we intervened. Every House has a Scion. A fragile, easily broken human that stood shoulder to shoulder with the house Princes and Princesses. Except for ours. The Ravens, House Cantelie. We've been without a Scion for almost fifteen years. But that will change...and her life will be mine to protect.

About LINK:

For seventeen-year-old Kira, there’s no better way to celebrate a birthday than being surrounded by friends and huddled beside a campfire deep in the woods. And with a birthday in the peak of summer, that includes late night swims under the stars. Or at least, it used to. Kira’s relaxing contemplation of the universe is interrupted when a piece of it falls, colliding with her and starting a chain of events that could unexpectedly lead to the one thing in her life that's missing—her father.
Tossed into a pieced-together world of carnivals and gypsies, an old-fashioned farmhouse, and the alluring presence of a boy from another planet, Kira discovers she’s been transported to the center of a black hole, and there’s more to the story than science can explain. She’s now linked by starlight to the world inside the darkness. And her star is dying. If she doesn’t return home before the star’s light disappears and her link breaks, she’ll be trapped forever.
But she’s not the only one ensnared, and with time running out, she’ll have to find a way to save a part of her past and a part of her future, or risk losing everything she loves. Dreamy, fluid, and beautiful, Link pairs the mystery of science fiction with the minor-key melody of a dark fantasy, creating a tale that is as human as it is out of this world. REVIEW

Kira and her friends enjoy the night by the lake. The stars are bright and there is slight romance in the air. Until the star falls.
And Kira is hit by it.

From the beginning of the book, we have already the mystery set. Where did Kira go? What is this mysterious fair? And why a boy showed her a bright star?

These are the questions Kira must answer in a race against time in order to find a way to save herself and in the proccess to find more about her father.
The best part of the book I believe it was the many dimensions which are introduced in the book. Kira lives in an alternative Earth which is similar to our own, even if some parts are different. Although I was worried about the development of a love triangle, that didn't happen and I am grateful.

LINK left many parts unsaid, which is good for the mystery of the story! I can't wait for the next books of the series!

                            Question of the Week:

If you could have any job, what would you do? - Suggested by Peace Love Books

                                                    My answer:

Since I'm already working in my dream profession (researching and teaching history), I am going to tell you my very next dream job! Well, jobs actually.

That's right Loki! The first time I had a dream about, you know my dream job, was when I first watched "Jurrasic Park"!

And of course the scene with the jelly!

I wanted to become a paleontologist, find dinosaurs and in my 5-6 year old mind, go to the Jurrasic Park! Then I realised how hard it actually IS to find a single tiny bone of the giants. So for a while I was like this:

Then, my Mom bought me a series of educational books with big pictures! They featured the animal kingdom, how Earth is like as a planet and then how space looks like. So I decided I wanted to become an astronaut!

BUT as I grew up, I discovered I hated Math. I can sympathize with every fictional girl who can't deal with this Subject! That doesn't mean I haven't devoured anything sci-fi, book, movie, tv show etc.

And then two things happened at once. My parents bought me the Video Tape of "Beauty and the Beast".

(sigh)

In which, as you know, Belle likes books and today she is the Goddess of every Book Blogger out there. Then my Dad showed me the "Indiana Jones" movies.

Those two made me love History!

In the end, after all this life adventure, in which I am sure you laughing out loud, my dream JOBS would be:

Archaeologist-Paleontologist
Austronaut
Bookshop owner
Traveler in fictional worlds (in an ideal future)
Maybe space smuggler (Indy a.k.a Han Solo right?)

Cover Reveal: "The Play" (The Pact #3) by Karina Halle

Welcome to the cover reveal for the new contemporary novel "The Play" by Karina Halle! Ragby, Scotts and lots of steamy romance is going to happen in this amazing series by one of my favorite authors!

A troubled Scottish rugby player who doesn't play by the rules.
A vivacious man-eater who's given up on love.
When it comes to Lachlan and Kayla, opposites don't just attract - they explode.

Kayla Moore has always been comfortable with her feisty, maneating reputation. At least it was fine until she hit her thirties and saw her best friends Stephanie and Nicola settle down with Linden and Bram McGregor, leaving Kayla to be the odd one out. Tired of being the third wheel with nothing but one-night stands and dead-end dates in San Francisco, Kayla decides to take a vow of celibacy and put men on the backburner.

That is until she lays her eyes on Linden and Bram’s cousin, hot Scot Lachlan McGregor. Lachlan is her sexual fantasy come to life – tall, tatted, and built like a Mack truck. With a steely gaze and successful rugby career back in Edinburgh, he’s the kind of man that makes her want to throw her vow right out the window. But Lachlan’s quiet and intense demeanor makes him a hard man to get to know, let alone get close to.

It isn’t until the two of them are thrown together one long, unforgettable night that Kayla realizes there is so much more to this brooding macho man than what meets the eye. But even with sparks flying between the two, Lachlan can’t stay in America forever. Now, Kayla has to decide whether to uproot her whole life and chance it all on someone she barely knows or risk getting burned once again.
Sometimes love is a game that just needs to be played.

Review: "Diverging Cadence" (Deceptive Cadence #2) by Katie Hamstead

Diverging Cadence by Katie Hamstead
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

When Cadence Anderson woke to find her husband and infant daughter had been killed, she thought her life was over. Instead, she was offered a second chance and sent back in time to do it all again.

She’s made the most of this opportunity, repairing her relationship with the best friend she lost the first time, avoiding the romantic mistakes she made originally, and even bringing her family closer together. But she’s also done something she wasn’t planning on—she’s fallen in love with someone other than her future husband.

Stepping onto a plane and flying across country to attend university is the hardest decision she’s had to make. But unless she follows through with it, her future with Austin might never happen. And what becomes of her beautiful baby if she stays with James, the man she was never supposed to love?

The only thing she knows for certain is that she has to see Austin again, and she’s intent on reliving that part of her previous life exactly like she did the first time. Even if that means she has to lie to James to do it. Because, deep down, she can’t quite bring herself to let him go.

Now, past and future are about to collide, and Cadence has to make her final choice—follow the uncertain path of a life with James, or the one she came back to save . . . with Austin.

REVIEW

"Diverging Cadence" is the second and final book on this magical series by Katie Hamstead! In book 1 Cadence's choices led her family and friends in different, better choices. Now, she must choose between Austin and James, the love she knows and the love she found in her second chance.

The story spans months in the college life of Cadence. She gets to change some of her choices there too and as a result she gets to know Austin earlier. There are many parts in which humor made me laugh but mostly after a point Cadence became too torn from those around her to the point of anger and tears.

I didn't like how her parents acted; to my opinion it was too harsh. James also had a little, somewhat kind of obssession which didn't work well in the long distance relationship.

But despite all the above, I was very surprised from the choice Cadence made and in what that brought her. Seriously the ending had me, crying over my tablet along with Cadence, especially towards the end.

Magical realism finally got under my skin and I wouldn'y be surprised if I devoured yet another book by this talented author!

Audiobook Series Review: "Blood of Eden" series by Julie Kagawa

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

In a future world, vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.
Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.
Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked - and given the ultimate choice. Die or become one of the monsters.
Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.
Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend - a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.
But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what - and who - is worth dying for.

REVIEW
The review follows all the books of the series.

I had read many reviews about Julie's works. "Iron Fey", "Talon" and finally "Blood of Eden". After the hiatus with "Twilight" you know what I mean, I'd lost interest for vampires.
BUT, I decided to begin my Julie Kagawa read-along with this series.

(GAH NOW! For the record I'm still Team Jacob!)

Few things made this series stand out and finally making me loving it. First, the world is destroyed by a virus named "Red Lung". I would say that human pride and greed led to this result but this is not mentioned in the book. Then there are the rabbids, zombie-wraith-like creatures which prey at night and you want to run like crazy when you see them.

Then there are the vampire cities. That's right, vampire cities. When the world went to hell, few of the most powerful vampires, stepped up, revealed their identities and created forts on major cities all across America. The humans who survived hid into the walls and since then they live in a regime of blood and fear.

Alison Sekemoto (I liked very much the Asian background) lives in one of the cities, trying to survive day by day. Her life is cruel, she doesn't depend on anyone and knows nothing but death and hunger. She hates vampires and there is a good reason for that. After a horrible accident, she is offered a choice from Kanin, a vampire who finds her half dead.

And from this point up to the end of the series, Ali will have to fight her inner monster, tame the hunger for blood and help her mentor fight a very horrible past, which answers in the name of Sarren. Needless to say that this guy was the most horrible villain in any book I've read and I'd NEVER, EVER want to come across him. His actions in the books were turning points for Ali, especially towards the end of the second book. That part was the hardest of all and I did cry as the narrator spoke with such anguish.

Other supporting characters are Zeke and Jackal. Zeke is the human who Alison will fall in love and Jackal is the sarcastic, litte sadistic vampire who joins the books and follows through the end. His remarks tend to be funny sometimes but mostly you want to punch him.
Very hard.

This vampire world is nothing like "Twilight" nor has the gothic elements of "Interview with a vampire". There's blood, gore at some point but also romance and very inner turmoil. It shows in what lenghts anyone can go for self preservation, for friends and family and how easily loyalties are formed and destroyed. Without a doubt, this series would make a great anime. Not like "Hellsing" but close to it.

The ending was bittersweet and open, with hope for the futre and the eternity of it. I was glad I began with this one and I can see how everything is detailed, how real the worldbuilding was and finally how Ali "grew" emotionally in the span of the books Highly recommended!
