It's just business, nothing personal.
Until you have to work with your ex.
Nothing Personal, an all-new standalone romantic comedy by New York Times Bestselling author Karina Halle is live!

Nothing Personal AMAZON.jpg

Nova Lane is having the worst week possible. Her latest relationship ended while on her much-needed vacation, then upon her first day back at work, she learns that her beloved boss has quit – and despite having worked so hard for it, she's not being considered for his position.
Who is being considered for the position is none other than Kessler Rocha. Her ex-coworker and ex-lover, Kessler’s the man who broke her heart five years earlier and the reason she moved thousands of miles away, switched jobs, and created numerous voodoo dolls in Kessler’s (very burly, very handsome) liking.

Yup. Worst week ever.

New in town and on her turf, Kessler promises he’s not the same man he was – and considering he’s now a single father to a precocious toddler, he’s telling the truth.
But he’s still an arrogant, devilish and dangerously intelligent man who’s taking over the position Nova feels she deserves. The fact that he’s gotten even more sexy over the years doesn’t help either.
Now Nova and Kessler have the choice to let bygones be bygones, or fight with each other every chance they get, with unresolved sexual tension only adding fuel to the flames, creating a fire that might just burn down the whole office.

In the corporate world they say it’s just business, nothing personal.
Nova and Kessler are about to show just how personal things can get.

REVIEW

received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A surprise release by my favorite author right before New Year's! I love Karina's writing especially how she can craft characters that stay with you and you get to have both the swoon, the romance, and the humor!

Set in Hawaii, which I seriously want to visit, the story follows Nova and Kessler as they try to reconnect with each other while at the same time they vie for the same position at work. Add in a murderous chicken, geckos and the beautiful scenery and you have the best story!

ARC Review: "Evermore" (Everless #2) by Sara Holland

Evermore by Sara Holland
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

The highly anticipated sequel to New York Times bestseller, Everless!

Jules Ember was raised hearing legends of the ancient magic of the wicked Alchemist and the good Sorceress. But she has just learned the truth: not only are the stories true, but she herself is the Alchemist, and Caro—a woman who single-handedly murdered the Queen and Jules’s first love, Roan, in cold blood—is the Sorceress.

The whole kingdom believes that Jules is responsible for the murders, and a hefty bounty has been placed on her head. And Caro is intent on destroying Jules, who stole her heart twelve lifetimes ago. Jules must delve into the stories that she now recognizes are accounts of her own past. REVIEW

I received an e-ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

The thrilling sequel to Everless was as I expected it. With action, resolutions, tragedy and Jules along with Liam! I seriously enjoyed reading the book and I was glad I didn't have to wait until 2019 for the sequel!

If I were to count something as not done so well, that would be Jules's decisions in certain parts of the story, but that's all. The worldbuilding is as elaborate as it was in the first book with great descriptions and lots of intrigues. If you want to finish your reading pile by the end of the year, I do recommend reading this beauty too!

About the author:

She graduated from Wesleyan University and worked in a tea shop, a dentist’s office, and a state capitol building before heading to New York to work in publishing. These days, she can be found exploring the city’s bookstores or finding new ways to put caffeine in her bloodstream. EVERLESS is her debut novel.

Double ARC Review: "Runaround" (Getaway, #4) by Jay Crownover & "Moonlight Scandals" (de Vincent #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Runaround by Jay Crownover
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

Can two people perpetually moving in opposite directions ever end up in the same place? Or will love just keep giving them the runaround?

Webb Bryant is intimately acquainted with every type of trouble there is. Trouble is all he’s ever known and the only constant in his life.
Webb’s a man constantly on the move. He’s a drifter. A wanderer. He bolts from one bad choice to the next, never able to put enough distance between himself and the ghosts from his past. He lives hard and fast, until everything comes to a screeching halt the moment he lays eyes on Tennyson McKenna. The stunning woman appeared out of nowhere to save the day, and Webb’s been unable to forget her. The leggy, blonde forest ranger might very well be the one person in the world important enough to finally keep him in one place. Only, Ten isn’t impressed by Webb’s knack for finding trouble. And no matter how hard he tries to shake it, he can’t escape his bad habit of falling into the deep end of questionable decisions. When his newest brush with trouble gets Webb in way over his head, Ten jumps after him into the dangerous waters. It’s possible they’re going to sink so fast they both might drown.

Tennyson McKenna makes it a point to be diligently cautious in all aspects of her life. She learned the hard way that leading with your heart instead of your head gets you nowhere.

Ten’s a woman stuck in a frustrating rut. After a string of failed relationships lands her back home, a pit stop to mend her broken heart becomes a hole she’s lost the will to dig herself out of. Coasting through her days was easy until Webb Bryant crash-landed in her path, complete with bullets, blood, and a grin far too charming for his own good. Webb is anything but safe and predictable. He’s everything Ten swore she would never gamble on again, but it’s impossible to ignore the way trouble follows him around like a shadow. And every single time Ten pushes Webb away, she finds herself chasing after him before he’s gone for good. When Webb’s past finally catches up to him, Ten has to decide if she’s brave enough to put her heart on the line for a man who might be gone tomorrow.

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I knew that Webb was going to get his own story! He had to after everything he'd been through in the previous books! I surely enjoyed his growing attraction for Ten and the chase both gave after a mysterious thief who is also trying to pin all the crimes to Webb. Family history, emotions, and growing love bring both characters closer in this sequel.

I do have some ideas about who is going to be next and I hope that Jay will prove me true.

It takes a fearless woman to love the most scandalous man alive in New York Times Bestselling Author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s breathtaking novel

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I KNEW THAT JENNIFER WAS GOING TO LEAVE THE BEST ONE FOR LAST! Devlin, the elusive secretive character from this trilogy has been one of the most anticipated ones, who I wanted to read about even from book one! Knowing that also Rosie was in the mix, I knew that I expected something amazing to go down.

BUT I DIDN'T EXPECT THE PLOT TWISTS! Jesus, one after the other the plot twists kept coming, with a slight touch of supernatural in it. Since the story takes place in New Orleans, I expected nothing less. But Devlin who appeared to be so cold and distanced actually had the most scars of all the brothers. And Rosie, beautiful Rosie with her optimism and a funny character whose heart is so big!

I admit that Dev didn't act right towards Rosie at the beginning of the book and I wanted to punch him very much, but knowing the danger and the enemies that he has, I forgave him. Just a little. But after chapter 19 the s*t hit the fan and I was scrolling through my Kindle with growing horror and surprise.

You will not be disappointed! Jennifer Armentrout delivers one hell of an amazing conclusion to this series, though I KOW that she MUST write one MORE book here!

About the author:

# 1 New York Times and # 1 International Bestselling author Jennifer lives in Charles Town, West Virginia. All the rumors you’ve heard about her state aren’t true. When she’s not hard at work writing. she spends her time reading, watching really bad zombie movies, pretending to write, hanging out with her husband and her Jack Russell Loki. In early 2015, Jennifer was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a group of rare genetic disorders that involve a breakdown and death of cells in the retina, eventually resulting in loss of vision, among other complications.  Due to this diagnosis, educating people on the varying degrees of blindness has become of passion of hers, right alongside writing, which she plans to do as long as she can.

                                                                       EXCERPT:

~TENNYSON~

The first time I laid eyes on Webb Bryant he was frighteningly pale from blood loss and nearly delirious from a raging fever. He’d been sporting a hole in his shoulder from a bullet wound and was terrified his brother was dead somewhere in the vast Wyoming wilderness. It was my job to protect and patrol, one I focused on diligently, but Webb was admittedly distracting. I thought he was going to pass out at my feet, a city boy in way over his head. He didn’t. He never wavered or stumbled in the unfamiliar terrain and unknown situation…not once.

He’d impressed me with his resilience and his determination to find out what had happened to his older brother. He’d also caught my attention with those burning blue eyes and shock of blond hair, which gave the misleading impression that the man had a single angelic quality about him. Every long, lean line of Webb Bryant oozed playful mischief and bled the promise of wicked things done in the dark…or during the bright light of day. He didn’t seem like the shy type. Even injured and out of his mind with frantic worry for his older sibling, he was the most charming, most flirtatious man I’d ever met. He sent every defense mechanism I had into overdrive, and there wasn’t a second that slid by where I didn’t remind myself he was not my type in the slightest. Besides, once the Warners and I had both the Bryant brothers straightened out, I figured I wouldn’t have to dodge Webb’s advances ever again.

He would ramble on to his next adventure and be out of sight and mind. I breathed a sigh of relief when he went away. He was too tempting. It was too enticing to give in to every single promise made by his easy smile and glinting eyes. Webb was several years younger than me, a man who was obviously lost and still trying to figure out who he wanted to be when he finally grew up. I was a woman who knew exactly who she was and who she could never be. I was never the type to chase after the bad boys, the wanderers, the reckless. No, I fell for the steadfast, the sturdy, and the solid. I gave my heart to the kind of men who held the world up and buffered everyone around them from the raging storm. I handed my heart to the oldest Warner brother, Cyrus, when we were just kids. Coming to terms with the fact the stoic and serious cowboy would never feel about me the way I felt about him had been one of the hardest things I’d ever had to do. We shared similar dreams, knowing our lives were so much bigger than the ranches that had our family’s bloodlines entrenched in the soil. We both wanted more than Wyoming, and for a long time, I honestly believed we were on the road out of our tiny town together. It didn’t happen that way. Sure, we both got out in our own time and in our own way, but we both ended up back where we started.

Cy was taking his return home in stride. He was far less resentful about his homecoming than I was. In fact, the wedding Webb was dragged out of two short days ago was Cy’s. I thought it was going to be hard, damn near impossible, to watch the man I’d openly loved from afar for most of my life promise his forever to someone else. It wasn’t nearly as bad as I envisioned. Mostly because Cy was stupid happy with his fiery city girl. He’d never been that happy with me, before we left or when we both admitted defeat and came back home. He’d never loved anyone like he loved his Leo, so the sting of watching him put a ring on someone else’s finger was minimal. I would gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon before admitting to anyone, especially myself, that since the start of the wedding most of my attention had been on Webb instead of the happy couple. To my surprise, my heart didn’t feel nearly as trampled as I thought it would. It was too busy stupidly racing over the man I believed I wouldn’t see again and knew I should keep my distance from. The blond man with a penchant for trouble hadn’t stayed gone like I predicted. Nope.

He’d shown up right when Cy needed help on the ranch and offered to stick around. Webb claimed he wanted to learn a new skill, seemed he’d taken a shine to the rough way of life in the Wyoming backcountry and wanted to play cowboy for a while. Cy couldn’t say no, and as badly as I wanted to, I couldn’t stay away. I was caught in an endless game of cat and mouse, and some days I wasn’t sure if I was the predator or the prey. I tracked Webb out of the corner of my eye for months. I expected him to up his game and try to lure me to bed, knowing the wedding was going to lower my defenses. Never in a million years would I have predicted he was going to be led away from the festivities in handcuffs.

REVIEW
I received an e-ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This was a very funny and emotional read! Declan and Autumn are the two opposites and Autumn has a very deep stalkerish tendency which comes from her 'angelic' power which demands her to always protect Declan. After many hilarious moments and some very strange dialogues, which made me laugh out loud, this couple had quite an emotional evolution. I surely didn't expect the final chapters to take THAT DOWNHILL! I CRIED! Rarely a book makes me laugh the sob my heart out. But I loved it because it's Alessandra Torre and because I had a great time reading it! ;)

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Ah Galen, the most horrible character of all finally gets his own book! Even since the fourth book I've been waiting for this story! And despite some tiny arguments about the characters, I admit that I enjoyed Honey/Legion and how she and Galen finally became a couple.

Paire with amazing battle scenes, a fortress and the cameo appearances from the other Lords I have finally recovered from my book slump. Also, I do believe that we are going to get more books in the spin-off series about the Angels.

EXCERPT:

Dear Legion, First, thanks tons for going into hiding outside the mortal world. I got to hunt you down big, bad wolf style—my favorite kind of hunting. Even better, you shacked up in an ancient realm without Wi-Fi. Now I get to communicate with you via robo-pigeons. Yay for me. BTW, the birds are “priceless,” and weren’t built to help me “score” with my “adult-boyhood crush” blah, blah, blah, so please don’t destroy the mechanical flock in a fit of pique. Decorating hack: repurpose the robo-pigeons as knickknacks to create a steampunk vibe. Not so I can watch you through the eye-cams. (Wink.) Second, it’s sometimes impossible to judge someone’s tone in a letter. Since I’m anti-misunderstandings, I’d like to clear things up right from the start. TONE: dry as a desert mixed with a dash of frothing-at-the-mouth rage.
Clear as crystal? Or mud? Third, I refuse to call you “Honey,” the name your friends are using. Babycakes, I’m not your friend, I’m your potential obsession. And, to be brutally honest about the matter, I’d rather call you Sugar Tits McGyna while having my wings ripped from my back (again) than refer to you as “Honey.” A name you like only because you hate the girl you used to be. News flash: I like the old Legion. (Leggie. Legs. <-- I’m trying out new nicknames for you. Did we just find a winner?) The old you gifted me with your virginity in a bar bathroom five minutes after meeting me.
Or was it four? I always forget. What’s not to like about that? Sure, you only slept with me so you could savagely murder me after I got you off, thereby protecting Aeron, the man you truly desired. And yeah, okay, I probably deserve a couple dozen more murder attempts because I later abducted your pregnant friend in an unethical-ish power play. But every couple has their issues, right? I’m willing to attend a counseling sesh with you.
Can you say the same? Please? FYI, my crew is on stand-by, ready to kidnap abduct borrow a world-renowned shrink at a moment’s notice. All I need from you is a yes. Lastly, I know you’ve been to hell and back—literally. I know you were hurt and abused in the worst ways. TONE: soft as a damn feather. I’m sorry for everything you’ve endured. If you really want to hurt the ones who hurt you, embrace happiness. Don’t let the past ruin your future.
Please, give me a chance to get to know the new you. A chance to help you heal, if I can. I think about you constantly, dream about you every night, and crave you every second of every day. Yours forever,

ARC Review: "White Stag" (Permafrost #1) by Kara Barbieri

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was one of the first ones I had added on my reading lists when I had begun browsing Wattpad. I remember loving the setting and the characters! And imagine my surprise when I realized that not only had I been sent an ARC but also that the story was familiar to me!

Janneke lives in Permafrost, a world parallel to the human one, home to mythical creatures, inspired by the Norse mythology and goblins. As a former prisoner of a sadistic goblin, Janneke has lived for the rest of one hundred years, serving her former captor's nephew, Soren.

Who is nothing like his uncle, Lydian.

When the former Erlking dies and the Hunt for the glorious White Stag begins, both Janneke and Soren will have to shift through backstabbing alliances, discover hidden secrets and also their own feelings. While the story is told from the first POV, the worldbuilding is stunning and Janneke's backstory is heartbreaking. Torn between survival and loyalty, trust and love she faces every possible danger while at the same time she also has Soren to help her. And she helps him.

I loved how the dynamics worked and while there is a trigger warning for torture and mention to rape, it is not brutally highlighted. The mythology of Permafrost, the Stag, and the unstoppable action kept me engrossed and I loved every turning page! And the romance! It was so slow burning!

I seriously can't wait for the sequel!

Release Day+ARC Review+Excerpt: "The Price of Mason" (Forbidden Men #10) by Linda Kage

The Price of Mason by Linda Kage
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Summary from GoodReads

I might’ve ruined any chance I ever had at a meaningful relationship when I decided to become a male prostitute at eighteen, but that was okay.

I paid off my mom’s debt, the rent, my sister’s hospital bills. I put food on the table and kept eviction notices at bay.

It was worth it.

But was it worth the price of my soul?

Two years later, this job has begun to kill me in every way but physically, until SHE comes along.

Reese is the breath of fresh air I need. She makes me smile, she makes me laugh, she makes me want more. But how can we ever be together after all the choices I’ve made?

Listing one mistake after another, these are my confessions and how we came through to the other side.

***

The Forbidden Men series concludes with THE PRICE OF MASON by looping back to the beginning and retelling PRICE OF A KISS through his eyes.

Just when you thought you knew everything, here’s the rest of the story.

REVIEW

I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Back in 2014 I had just started discovering my way through Goodreads and the NA oriented books. Now the site kept recommending to me "Price of a Kiss" by Linda Kage and finally, I bought it.
And then I fell in love.

For four years I have been a fan of this series with its heartfelt messages, amazing, funny, emotional characters and lots of humorous scenes. Seeing that the book centers around Mason truly gives to the series the feeling that we come in a full circle back to the beginning and back to Reese and Mason. I enjoyed Mason's POV, which took leaps in the time of the book and how he fell in love with Reese from his own POV.

The best part was that close to the ending he had a scene with Ten and I was giggling remembering how Ten feel in love later in the series. Oh, and there is a surprise after the book's end too!

Linda Kage has created an unforgettable cast of characters who will stay with you even after the end of the book.

And I am still reeling over the fact that many of my favorite series have ended in 2019! Recommended and also if this is your first time seeing this book, I implore you to read all the series!

EXCERPT
(as shared by the author)

Because I was a glutton for punishment, I wandered in after her.
I knew I shouldn’t. I was already knocking at temptation’s door; I was being a complete idiot for even coming here tonight. But I just had to see her room, the bed she slept on each night, the sheets that touched her skin when she dreamed.
The need was more addictive than I could resist.
I stepped inside.
The space was snug, real snug, which was probably why it smelled so strongly of her. Her scent was literally trapped in this place. Not much more than a small bed, dresser, and miniature bookshelf adorned it. We’d have to get close in here. We’d have to stay close.
I went rock solid hard.
No one knew I was here. Not Monica, not Patricia. No one who would make a case of it. No one would know anything we did.
Watching Reese’s lines bloom into delicious curves as she bent down to fetch the second Harry Potter book for me, I played with the idea in my head.
Just one night. What could it hurt? One night to live out my ultimate fantasy of being with Reese.
It would be wrong. So fucking wrong.
But it’d be worth it to finally taste her.
